We are back with our weekly updates from our in house agony aunt ‘Aunty Fabulous’ and hear some of the questions she has been asked, it was a great to hear how, ‘Aunty Fabulous’ tackled these obstacles.

Question: My husband and I have been married for three months now and he has recently received a promotion with work.

The only downside is the promotion is in LA. I am not sure how I feel about this, as I am such a London girl and I have my family, friends, job and life here.I know I have no choice and I do have to go, but I can’t help feeling resentful that I have to sacrifice so much.

Do you have any advice?

Dear Reader,

Moving away from home when it was not part of your initial plans can be very daunting. It can also be exciting and open up all kinds of new and fun opportunities not only for your husband but you too.

Marriage is a union between two people who love each other and want to make a life wonderful life together. It can also be a compromise.

It’s important you talk to your husband and tell him how you feel.

You may surprise yourself and love it there but also need to know from him that if after a year you still feel you want to be in London that he will understand and respect that too.

Explore different possibilities with him so you feel comfortable he is taking your feelings into consideration too and understands you.

Being open and honest from the beginning of your marriage will set your foundations for the future.

Living in LA may take some adjusting as it takes time to adapt to new surroundings and lifestyle.

See it as an adventure for the two of you. Be open to something new.

Making new friends and keeping busy will be key to helping you settle in.

Look at where you will be living and work opportunities. Find out about social activities, health clubs and other interests you may enjoy.

Be open to this new chapter in your life.

Arrange for family and friends to visit and stay with you and give yourself time to meet new friends too.

This is a great opportunity at the beginning of your marriage before you settle down with a family.

Building a home wherever you are in the world can be amazing and a fabulous experience.

You may miss London and family but you can also build a fantastic home, make new friends and have a fabulous life and job in LA.

Give it a chance. Take a leap of faith. Keep the communication doors open with your husband and know that he will want the best for you too.

Keep an open mind and heart too.

Enjoy your adventure. You may surprise yourself and love it!
