Aunty Fabulous Coaching Session 13: Does My Baby Prefer To Be Comforted By Our Nanny

We are back with our weekly updates from our in house agony aunt ‘Aunty Fabulous’ and hear some of the questions she has been asked, it was a great to hear how, ‘Aunty Fabulous’ tackled these obstacles.

Question: Dear Aunty Fabulous, I have employed a full time nanny as I am back at work from my 9 months of maternity leave. I am getting emotional as I am finding on weekends my baby girl who is 9 months old would rather get comfort from our nanny than from me. I have only been back to work a few weeks now but financially me being back at work is the extra income we need. Nurseries are far too expensive and that is why I chose to have a live in nanny. How can I rectify the situation or stop myself feeling like this?

Aunty Fabulous Answer:  Going back to work after 9 months maternity leave can be emotional for any Mum leaving her baby.

After being with your baby since giving birth it is totally normal to have the feelings you do.

Remember you are her Mummy – Not the Nanny!

It can sometimes take more than a few weeks to adapt to a new routine.

Be with your baby for her key moments.It’s wonderful to hear that your baby has connected so well with your nanny which is great.It’s also comforting for you to know your baby is in good hands.

Aunty Fabulous Tips:  Quality Mummy and baby time is key for Mums at work!

  • Make sure you are there for bath time every evening and that you are the one to read your baby girl her bedtime story.
  • Be the first one to see her and give her a cuddle in the morning.
  • Give yourself time for you and your baby in the morning. It may be a slight juggling act first thing depending on what time you need to leave for work. But by adapting your routine and waking up slightly earlier you can give her breakfast too.
  • Avoid denying yourself those special moments and don’t make excuses! If the nanny is there that is great but it doesn’t mean you can’t have your own time with your baby which will be good for both of you.

Just because you are back at work you have not stopped being your babies mummy.
